Beating it consistently means you are getting better prices than the most efficient number available, and over a large sample that is the difference between a lucky run and a real edge. - Closing line value measures the odds you took against the final odds before an event starts. If you consistently take better prices than the close, you are beating the market, which is the strongest known predictor of long-term betting profit.
- How is CLV calculated?
- With decimal odds: CLV = (your odds / closing odds) - 1. Taking 2.10 on a market that closes 1.95 gives +7.7% CLV. The calculator also converts American odds for you.
- Why remove the vig from the closing line?
- Bookmaker prices include a margin, so the raw closing odds slightly understate the true probability. Entering both sides of the closing market removes that margin and gives a cleaner expected ROI estimate.
- Is positive CLV a guarantee of profit?
